REVIEW: ROUTE 666, The Fletcher Christian, Cockermouth, Saturday, November 11th 2006.

Do you have a pangent for hard drivin' blues rock, then look no further this hard grafting Liverpudlian trio, Route 666.

Having 666 in their name is apt, as they play the Devils music with vengeance. What better way to spend a Saturday evening than in the company of three great fella's who are experts at stirring up even the dullest of punters into a frenzy with their potent blend of hard driving blues rock.  The band love playing to their growing army of friends and fans, in Cumbria which is fast becoming the blues capital of the north.

The first set began with a rocking aptly titled "Blow this place away" from their latest "Money, Murder Love" CD. The band have been together for over eight years now, and it sure shows as they have developed into fine tunesmiths who's own material often eclipses some of the superb covers in the set.  This was definitely the case with "Something I need" which reaches it's climax with a wonderful kossof esque solo from Guitarist 'Lord Simon Axe Meister'.

Just as the they were about to deliver a rousing "Tube Snake Boogie" (ZZ Top, to the uninitiated) showing their humorous side Bassist 'Jack Mad McMad' thanked us all for braving the wild and windy night and sacrificing "The X Factor", which had us all in fits of laughter -  no competition to what we were experiencing.

The first set ended on a high with a brilliant extended acoustic set that kicked of with "Gone" the great closing number from "Money, Murder, Love. The rest of the unplugged set consisted of an impressive triple blues helping, that started with Muddy Water's "I can't be Satisfied", and ended with a blues sing along to the 'John Lee Hooker' classics "Dimples" and "Madman Blues".

If you are a Top and Hendrix fan, then the second set would have been right up your street, as we were treat to incendiary versions of "Tush" "Foxy Lady" and "La Grange". Next up was the lament of a falling out with a landlord, in the form of "Just Not Blue Enough" which is fast becoming a firm favourite.

This set was brought to a rollicking end, with the pairing of "Mad Man on My Mind" and the heavy metal rock of "Tryin' to Get Home" from their impressive debut "Let it all out" CD

Check out this talented outfit, watch out for them playing at a venue near you. Thanks lads for another brilliant night.
